The Biden administration could potentially be eyeing its sixth national monument, if petitioners in New Mexico get their way.
A campaign to establish the Mimbres Peaks National Monument launched last month. Petitioners claim this proposal would “conserve” 245,000 federal land acres from multiple-use activities like grazing and mining. The area would encompass the Florida Mountains, Cooke’s Range, the Good Sight Mountains, and the “Tres Hermanas” peaks.
The harm comes from when you get told you need to reduce your herd by 25% in order to do business, get a loan, or sell your cattle. The harm comes when you realize the system that you helped create and put in place is the same system that is driving you out of business.
These lands are crucial to the County’s socio-economic well-being, health, safety, welfare, and culture. The County argues that listing their federal lands into a NAC would require the land to be managed for “sustainable” purposes and eliminate the productive uses. These productive uses support their local economy by funding their schools, hospitals, emergency services, roads, utilities, and other necessary services.
For months, landowners have been battling the two heavily subsidized carbon sequestration pipeline companies attempting to stop what their Governor forced upon them when she signed a bill giving the private pipeline companies the power to take private property prior to the PUC permit approval. They’ve held rallies, collected thousands of signatures, and asked for a Special Session to address this issue, but Governor Noem has turned a deaf ear to their demands.
Carbon sequestration is one of the Biden administration’s major excuses to fight a non-existent climate change “crisis.” Funded through the Inflation Reduction Act (named by Biden’s handlers to sell his massive spending bill to the public and Congress), carbon capture companies fall under the $369B “climate and energy” spending that gives federal tax credits and subsidies for carbon capture, placing it under tremendous pressure, pumping it through underground pipelines, and sequestering (store) it in geologic formations below the Earth’s surface forever. What could go wrong?
