What One Wolf Can Do to One Cattle Operation

by | Apr 28, 2025 | ESA, Delisting, Farmers and Ranchers, Liberty Matters

The University of California Davis (UCD) issued a study that revealed astounding economic damage a single gray wolf can wreak on one cattle operation.

They found that one gray wolf can cause between $69,000 and $162,000 in losses to a ranching operation and millions of dollars to the overall ranching community.  Although this study wasn’t released until last week, both Reps Lauren Boebert and Tom Tiffany filed The Pet and Livestock Protection Act (PALPA) to delist the Gray wolf earlier this year and recently passed it out of the House Natural Resources Committee with a 24-17 vote.

As reported by UCD, “The study utilized advanced methods like motion-activated game cameras, GPS collars, wolf scat analysis, and cattle tail hair samples. These tools provided a clearer picture of wolf-cattle interactions.”
