The U.S. Senate approved Katharine (Kate) MacGregor as Deputy Sec. of the Interior. She will be number two at the Department behind Sec. Doug Burham.
This will be MacGregor’s second time to serve as the Deputy. The first time was also in the first Trump administration where she succeeded Sec. David Bernhardt when he was confirmed as Secretary of the Interior in February 2020.
She was a staffer for Eric Cantor, Majority Leader of the Senate and served as a staffer in the U.S. House Committee on Natural Resources from 2011 to 2017.
In her confirmation hearing, MacGregor said: “I cannot imagine any instance where it is just and right that someone wait over 30 years for the authority to build a road to connect their community to better services, 20 years for a habitat conservation plan, 15 years for a final resource management plan… This is why so many rural Americans feel like their government has forgotten them.”
“I would like to come back to drive change and efficiency – and in doing so, I hope we can once again make a difference for the people who rely upon us to show us and do our jobs.”
