ASL Seeks Pause on Determining Need for Transmission Line

As Robert Montoya of Texas Scorecard reports, American Stewards of Liberty has asked the Public Utility Commission of Texas to postpone determining whether four proposed 765-kV transmission line segments are needed until completion of the final administrative hearing on the fifth segment, arguing that all five cases share the same underlying question of necessity. This week 43 Texas state lawmakers filed a brief in support of ASL’s motion, citing a recent Texas Public Policy Foundation assessment that the proposed 765-kV buildout would impose extraordinary costs on Texas ratepayers—approximately $100 billion in lifetime costs, while adding no new ERCOT generation capacity.
