The Environmental Protection Agency rule that would have destroyed small local meat processors was withdrawn by the Trump Administration September 3, 2025. This is another major win for landowners and the local food industry, and a blow to the large meat processing facilities that would have gained a competitive edge.
The proposed rule was entitled “Clean Water Act Effluent Limitations Guidelines and Standards for the Meat and Poultry Products Point Source Category,” which was originally published in the Federal Register on January 23, 2024. The rule was opposed by ASL, the Kansas Natural Resource Coalition, and Dr. Robert Malone as well as other national organizations.
