Rep. Tom Tiffany (R-WI) has been leading an effort to stop wind and solar projects from destroying American farmland and China from owning our farmlands.
Since 2022, Tiffany has been concerned about not only the destruction of American farmland, but the dependency on Communist China “which controls much of the global supply chain for the mineral used in solar panels. In other words, we are sacrificing our productive farmland to benefit China.”
Tiffany has introduced, for a second time, the Future Agriculture Retention and Management Act (FARM Act) to end federal subsidies for wind and solar development on agricultural lands. Subsidies that amount to $50,000 per acre paid to the developers.
Tiffany said in an interview with Just the News that ‘the worst part about these developers is they are taking away our productive farmland. And, energy production is really important, but there’s one thing that’s more important…and that’s growing food and we are headed in the wrong direction converting this farmland.”
He sat down with the President shortly after entering into office and asked him to end these subsidies. Not only did President Trump take his advice, but decided to issue an executive order on July 7th, directing the Treasury Department to “strictly enforce” the end of tax credits for wind and solar projects on farmland, unless a “substantial portion of a subject facility has been built.”
The executive order specified within 45 days of the passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill on July 4th, to (a) rapidly eliminate the market distortions and costs imposed on taxpayers by so-called “green” energy subsidies; (b) build upon and strengthen the repeal of, and modifications to, wind, solar, and other “green” energy tax credits in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act; and (c) end taxpayer support for unaffordable and unreliable “green” energy sources and supply chains built in, and controlled by, foreign adversaries.
And as of last week on August 18th, USDA’s Secretary Rollins issued the immediate ban of subsidies for wind and solar projects on productive farmland.
“With this action, the USDA is making it clear that agriculture, not foreign-made solar panels, belongs on America’s farmland. Ensuring that our land, food supply, and rural traditions are protected for generations to come,” stated Rep. Tiffany.
Ending CCP’s Ownership of American Farmland
Representative Tiffany, along with Rep. Mary Miller (IL-15) and ten other House Republicans, filed the Protecting Our Farms and Homes from China Act, which will end Communist China’s ownership of U.S. farmland and homes. Right now, roughly 265,000 acres of U.S. farmland are owned by Chinese entities—a direct threat to national security and American farmers.
“We cannot allow foreign powers to dictate the future of our farms and our food. It is past time to end this and stop the CCP from buying up our heartland,” stated Tiffany.
