Hypocrisy of the Elites

This past Sunday, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations launched its plan for the world’s food future.

It’s called “Achieving SDG2 without breaching the 1.5C threshold: A Global Roadmap.”  FAO claims to be championing a “holistic approach to transforming agrifood systems” by aligning with the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

These goals “integrate poverty eradication, land rights, and rural resilience, while emphasizing the connection between food security, nutrition, health, education, and gender equality.”  Nothing to see here.

However, Rep. Mike Flood, Republican from Nebraska, had an interesting twist on the United Nations COP28 climate summit that just ended in Dubai.  He called out the elite hypocrites attending the summit for eating the forbidden beef us mere mortals will be banned from eating in the future.

Upon arriving on their private jets from around the world, attendees were offered a variety of gourmet food options, including beef.  According to the summit’s online portal, these attendees who are saving our planet from climate change were given choices that included “juicy beef,” “slabs of succulent meat,” smoked wagyu burgers, Philly cheesesteaks, and “melt-in-your-mouth BBQ.”

“The UN’s plans for your diet would be nothing short of a disaster for your health and food security worldwide,” said Rep. Flood. “Meat is one of the most efficient ways to deliver protein, and here in the Beef State, cattle are a critical part of the Golden Triangle that’s supplying clean ethanol fuel around the world.

Rep. Flood, who serves on the Congressional Beef Caucus, has introduced a resolution pushing back on FAO’s recommendation to reduce the amount of beef in diets, substitute non-meat alternatives, and the “rebalancing” of meat production that threatens existing ranching and feeding producers nationwide.

“The resolution I’m introducing today makes it clear that the United States opposes any attempt to reduce or eliminate meat production. Doing so would shatter the world’s food security and end an age-old way of life for millions of farm and ranch families across the globe.”
