Between the US Department of Agriculture and Department of Interior the two agencies administer nearly 240 million acres of rangelands across 28 states. There are approximately 29,000 grazing allotments of which ten percent – nearly 24 million acres – are currently vacant.
Together, the two agencies are spotlighting the need for more federal land grazing and the critical needs of ranchers by strengthening coordination, cutting bureaucratic red tape, and delivering immediate, tangible support for America’s food producers who depend on the use of federal lands for their livelihoods.
On March 31st, the two agencies announced their Grazing Action Plan with the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding to boost the supply of American born, raised, and harvested beef of American ranchers.
