Special Event

What:

The Coordination Process is one of the most powerful tools local governments have to protect their communities from federal overreach, but most county officials do not know how to use the process.

IN THIS ONE-HOUR WEBINAR WE WILL COVER:

  • What “Coordination” is and is not.
  • How it is far superior to the cooperative agency and collaboration processes.
  • The plans and policies you need to get started.
  • What you do if the federal agencies refuse to coordinate.

Coordination is a unique government-to-government relationship created by Congress that requires the federal agencies to meet specific criteria. But the federal agencies rarely implement the process.

This is largely because coordination is conducted in an open public forum where the local governments control the agenda. If an agency is operating outside the law or implementing a political agenda contrary to the President and harmful to the community, the coordination process can expose and hold the agency accountable.

Who:

This course is designed for local elected leaders from counties, cities and special districts, and their personnel. It is also geared towards local leaders who can help support their local governments efforts to work with the federal land management agencies.

Why:

Coordination has been used successfully to stop federal land management plans from being implemented when they harm the local economy and restrict the productive uses of the land. It has also been used to facilitate federal agencies adopting local plans that protect the citizens.

How:

In this course you will learn why some local governments have succeeded and others have failed. Making federal agencies coordinate requires the local governments to initiate key steps to get them to the table where policy conflicts can be resolved. You will learn what these are and how to set your local government up for success.
