Why Property Rights Matter

10 Principles

Restoring Local Control

“Every action that erodes property, erodes liberty”

– American Stewards of Liberty

We are witnessing the rapid consolidation of land and power in America.

This is why we must continually push back on the environmental agenda regardless of the political party in office. We must expose our opponents and educate our elected leaders, communities and associations. It is essential if we are to reign in the administrative state and restore our land and liberty.

Natural Asset Companies

The Natural Asset Scam

The New York Stock Exchange, Intrinsic Exchange Group and Securities Exchange Commission attempted the greatest silent coup our nation has faced when they attempted to create “Natural Asset Companies.” Fortunately, we stopped their first attempt. They will be back, and we must be ready.

The Federal Government is implementing a similar strategy, monetizing natural processes such as pollination and photosynthesis, to place these values on the federal balance sheet. They are calling these “Natural Capital Accounts.” Their test pilot accounts for the program show they are preparing to add every American’s home as collateral for the federal debt. No citizen’s property is protected. The Natural Asset scam must be stopped.

30 x 30 Agenda

The 30×30 Land Grab

The 30×30 agenda is an international plan to permanently protect 30 percent of the world’s lands and oceans by 2030. These lands are to be kept in their natural state, with the ultimate goal to prohibit all human use. To attain this target they need to take control of another 400 million acres in America. This is the equivalent of protecting an additional area the size of nine states of Nebraska or two states of Texas by 2030.

Environmentalists have been working on this agenda since the 1960’s, and they will continue to advance this goal regardless of which political party is in office. This must be stopped, rolled back, and private ownership of the land by America’s middle class restored.

Conservation Easements

Conservation Easements or Servitude?

Governments and Land Trusts are using conservation easements to gain control of America’s private property. In many cases they are using taxpayer dollars to convince landowners to give up their rights and permanently restrict the land. Conservation easement lands no longer retain the characteristics of private property because the control of that property now belongs to the easement holder, not the landowner. It is why they should be identified as “Conservation Servitudes.” However, environmentalists knew if they labeled them properly, landowners would be less likely to sell away their rights.

Endangered Species

Endangered Species

The Endangered Species Act’s purpose is to recover species in danger of extinction. However, the law has been used as a powerful regulatory weapon against landowners.  The very people providing habitat for potentially imperiled species are those penalized by the Federal law.  Once a species is listed as threatened or endangered, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service uses their regulatory power to impose strict restrictions on land use – driving landowners and entire industries out of business.

Key Strategy:
Restore Local Control

ASL trains local governments on how to require federal agencies to harmonize their plans and policies with the local position. The strategy is called “Coordination,” and its authority is found in federal law.

It was one of ASL’s principals, attorney Fred Kelly Grant, that discovered the federal coordination requirement in the early 1990’s. We have been helping local governments understand and implement this powerful process ever since.

Every policy that comes from Washington D.C. must be implemented locally. Coordination is one of the best tools we have to confront harmful federal policies and restore local control.

“Where the people fear the government you have tyranny. Where the government fears the people you have liberty.”

John Basil Barnhill

“Government is never more dangerous than when our desire to have it help us blinds us to its great power to harm us.”

Ronald Reagan

President of the U.S. - 1980
